The History of Athens
It is estimated that an Athens' entire force of potters in the 5th century BC numbered no more than 500. The largest Athenian ergastarion, or workshop, was owned by a medic named Kefelis who employed 120 slaves. Those who worked on state projects were paid one drop up per day, no matter what craft they practiced. We will talk about slaves, and what they did with the money they received from being contracted out by their masters on the next episode.
