Georgia's Relationships With Russia

Two small separatist provinces inside georgia called south ascetia and apcasia. After the collapse of the soviet union, both fought for independence but their status was never settled. Backed by russia, they remained outside georgia's control. Over the years, sporadic but deadly fighting broke out. In two thousand and four he held talks with russia, but georgian forces intervened too.
