How to Use the Journal App to Find Your Friends
Your devices already track which people you have close by to you, regardless of whether you're sharing find my with them. This happens through a system called report or rapport, our AP or T report. The underlying protocol used for many things such as continuity, handoff and airplay. Currently, it can detect when a contacts devices nearby, but it doesn't do anything with that information unless you activate airdrop.
