The Importance of Being Rational
Self-interest means taking care of yourself, material. You've got to be able to make the products that are necessary for human existence. So agriculture was a huge human achievement of the mind. None of it is a product of just genes of just instinct. We have very few instincts. None of them allowed for the standard of living we have today. It's about being rational over the long term. That's what self-interest means. Steve Jobs was a good guy. Not because they'd give money away but because they made something of their lives. They built something. They created something. They took care of themselves. And he did a phenomenal job at it.
