The Negative Effects of Remote Work on Productivity

People argue that working from home means you won't have to deal with these sort of performative aspects of work anymore. I think this aspect of performative work actually carries over to remote work and is maybe even more damaging, because you have to try harder to make up for the absence of physical presence. If remote work allowed us to be so flexible, why is there a block of time in which we have to be online?
