For people to care about the environment, they have to have at least three square meals a day and a house to live in. To get that, you need power - cities are basically energy capture devices; is there a way around that? I mean, nuclear or solar, youow that you caund just make this leap in ten years and have to pollute the environment if you're a poor country. Ye. The idea of the cousines curve, as you said, it things get worse before they get better,. which is actually not universally true but there's something to it.

In this conversation, based on the book The Spirit of Green: The Economics of Collisions and Contagions in a Crowded World, Nobel Prize-winning pioneer in environmental economics Dr. Nordhaus explains how and why “green thinking” could cure many of the world’s most serious problems — from global warming to pandemics.
