Sergeant Joseph Felix tied Amir's shoelaces together and looped the belt through them, forcing Amir to bend a double. He also used a flagpole to push down on Amir's toes before handing him a scrubbing brush and telling him to behead a fellow recruit with it. At night, he was plagued by nightmares that featured Felix killing his family. Jake Weaver struggled with some of the things he'd seen during training but found himself grappling with mistreatment as well. His mental health began to suffer and he wound up being hospitalized due to having suicidal thoughts. After Jake's dismay, he found out he would be receiving an other-than-honorable discharge.
