Kerry: Were these primarily about the zero-covid policies then and either the criticism of Z or the call for wider liberalisations have very much been a secondary character to the protest? Carrie: I get the feeling that people protesting wanted to see these restrictions lifted. They are very tired of them and I think it's understandable. Kerry: It seems to me that China is in a very difficult position now where its growth is very low, unemployment is probably rising at least for young people. And if these all come together, that's a China which I haven't certainly seen in my time dealing with China.
