How to Be a Good Reporter?

Where do you see the line between cultivating relationships with sources and cultivating friendships that might conflict with your ability to report fairly? You know, I never had a real problem doing that. Your job is not to agree or disagree with the people you cover. And some of them you may not like terribly much, but you still have to get to know them if possible.
