I'm Not a Big Fan of Taxing Private Schools
I think there's a huge difference between saying you're not going to give catch breaks to a sector and saying you're going to close the sector altogether. The former is saying the state shouldn't give you any benefit. This is a luxury good. If you want to buy it, you're free to buy it,. but we're not Going to help you buy it. And that risks going down a path where the state becomes much more involved in people's lives than I would be comfortable with as a liberal. So even though I don't think private schools are contributing a huge amount to the country, I wouldn't be supportive of closing them down - whereas I am a sportswood of
