Timothy Stanley: I am so grateful to have been introduced to your work and what a pleasure it is to get to know you a little bit today. He says debate often carries this kind of connotation of like, it's bad; the root of the word for debate really literally means 'to beat down' But as you move more in that direction, he says, "it starts to have these different connotations that open up possibilities" And when we think about being constructive with other people instead of showing off our own views, debates can be an opportunity," Stanley adds.
Timothy J. Shaffer shares about deliberative pedagogy and his work with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) at the University of Delaware Biden School of Public Policy and Administration on episode 474 of the Teaching in Higher Ed podcast.
