Many Millerites gave up their distinctively Millerite beliefs some return to the denominations that they had been part of while others joined different sects. The remaining Millerite split into two groups the first group with which William Miller himself affiliated acknowledged that the calculation of the date of Jesus' return was mistaken. They still believed that the October 22nd 1844 date was correct but they interpreted it as referring to something other than the end of the world or the second coming.
