The Role of Acetylation in Gene Expression

Acetylation with acetyl CoA is how you unwind that DNA and open it up so that you can express your genes. This might underlie one experiment where black wraps were fed pantothenic acid deficient diets and they had gray hair. Perhaps the alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone was not being acetylated properly. Other acetylation reactions include the addition of the saturated fatty acids, maristate, steroid, and pomatate to proteins.
