The Evolution of the ML Community

The ML community broadly is much more intellectually mature than it was a decade ago. There's an active dialogue in different departments including technical departments about how should we think about fairness accountability and transparency ethics mostly as a technical problem separately. Science and technology studies that are thinking about socio-technological systems including ethical impact of technologies those I think are doing a great job building on earlier traditions of applied ethics of technology.
