In the wrong hands, cognitive empathy can be a bad thing. If it isn't paired with affective empathy or at least something that functions as a conscience, then it can be a very bad thing. I'm very struck that autistic people often have a very highly developed moral compass. They're often the first to speak up if they witness any injustice and they want to do something about it.
