How Did You Become a Literacy Leader?

The first thing I did was a two-year ongoing commitment to try and develop our own understanding of literacy. We weren't using explicit direct instruction at that point in time. It took quite some work to convince other pre-primary teachers that this was the way to go. In the following year, the band-aid was ripped off and we all began to follow a far more explicit methodology with an explicit approach to our phonics.
