Theology and Theology - What Do the Poets Bring?
To do theology, well, you need to have poets at the table along with theologians. One of the things they bring, i suppose, is a deep awareness of metaphor. Butithere's a danger for the theologians, they forget theyre using metaphorical language. They start to take their own metaphors a bit too literally and too seriously. And they then, as it were, divinize their discourse. They they worship their formulae. So poets are in that business. You mention he the scientific materialists and the like.
