The Battle of the Mediterranean
With their successes in North Africa, and then subsequent capture of Sicily, the Allies opened up the Mediterranean to Allied merchant traffic. And it comes a major transportation artery of convoys flowing through the Mediterranean back and forth. One of the beneficiaries of this are the British forces that exist in Burma and in India. But another beneficiary of this is the Soviet Union, because a lot of these supply ships are providing resources to the Soviets via Persia or Iran.
