The New York City Rat
The latin name is ratus norvegicus, which would translate to the norway rat. We don't exactly know why they have that name. The most likely story is that the british naturalist, john berkenhaw, mistakenly wrote that rat had arrived in england from norway and the mistake stuck. They originated in east asia, likely in a region between northern china and mongolia, a couple million years ago. It's likely that originally they were living along like, streams sor of grassy savannah areas where there was water sources.
