In the 1930s, researchers found that people who were raised in warm, supportive homes had parents that they experienced as loving. People with good childhood experiences tended to lean into problems and talk about them more than those from a bad home. The key is facing away from things rather than avoiding them; we don't want to run into pain or avoid it.
