The History of the Japanese Communist Party

The JCP, the Japanese Communist Party, was established in 1922. The party leader Yamakawa Hitoshi argued that there was no choice but to first work toward building a legal party with a mass base. Authorities were increasingly alarmed by the influx of radical ideologies such as anarchism and communism during post-World War I era. In 1921, an economic professor at Tokyo Emperor University was fired from the university for publishing an anarchist attract in the department's journal.
