Kirk: What FDR did was bigger on a massive scale in terms of creating this thing that today we would call the state. He says virtually every single thing that at least the early New Deal did was built on the structures, institutions and ideas of the Wilson administration. Kirk: I've never heard a really good explanation for why the first generation of post-war American conservatives could have such a bile and anger and animosity for the FDR years but be almost entirely silent about Wilson.
