There seems to be quite a lot of gender politics involved. The idea is that when you have the tabs, a person with a woman just has to open the drawer and as long as you know the alphabet, right? You can find things because it's doing the thinking for you. And women are understood to have nimble fingers, like more manual and physical dexterity than men. They asked them, do you knit? Do you sew? Do you crochet? Do you play the piano? Like to make sure you have these nimble fingers that are ready to pull files from drawers.
