What You Want Is a Desire for Recognition
What we want is always a desire for recognition to be seen a certain way. By possessing that object and showing that you have it, you can garner the recognition, approval, and love of others. That is not the same as recognizing your desire. Don't get trapped in answering the question of what your patient wants because they'll tell you till they're blue in the face about all the shit they want. The proper question, the question to which desire is a defense, is why. Why that? And why tell me about it now? What do you want?"
