The Japanese Colonial Period in Taiwan

Since the take over in 1895 Japan's number one priority had been to restore order and establish control. A judicial system was set up there were courts and tribunals and justice was very harsh if you ended up on the wrong side of the law. The warlordism that had plagued the Taiwan countryside was essentially stamped out. Japanese agricultural policies on Taiwan turned the island into a major food supplier for their home market. By the 1920s comparatively speaking there wasn't a province in China that could grow more food than in Taiwan. Man the Japanese really made the Qing dynasty look bad.
