The Ketogenic Diet and Cancer

The signaling properties of ketones are having anti-cancer effects independent of their effects on metabolism on cancer. Unlike glucose, ketones need to be metabolized specifically in the mitochondria to generate ATP. If your mitochondria are deficient, which is shown in all cancer cells that have been looked at, you have an paired ability of the cancer cell to make ATP from ketones. It's possible cancer cells could be using some of the carbons from ketones for biosynthetic processes. But without energy, without sustaining energy, that's an energy-dependent process. So we target those things with the ketogenic diet and with, you know, ketone supplementation.
