Advocacy for Unrepresented Patients

This chapter examines the dilemmas faced by medical professionals when caring for unrepresented patients who lack advocates during critical health situations. It discusses the emotional and ethical challenges of making care decisions without clear guidance, as well as the innovative solutions proposed to provide better advocacy. A matching program is highlighted, where trained healthcare volunteers help ensure that these vulnerable patients' preferences and values are communicated and respected in medical settings.
