The Singularity Theorems

I'm curious to find out which one of these two did you fall in love with first, how and why? My problem in answering that question is that I've always been a biggomist. When I was an undergraduate at MIT, the Hawking-Bennrose Singularity Theorems first came out. That interested me in cosmological questions because ultimately the Singular Theorems depend on the properties of the universe as a whole. And if for example there exist black holes or there if the universe is expanding then the universe had to begin in a singularity - mathematics no longer applies.
