The word apocalyptic has a long history, a long complex history Both in the English language and in modern academic studies. We chose that title just to emphasize kind of the radical nature of how first century Jews viewed the world And to bring some continuity with modern historical studies. The term is derived etymologically from the Greek word Apocalypsis meaning to reveal or to unveil a mystery. It's not really our goal in this, though we can talk about it There's whole streams of theological studies that orient apocalyptic around that definition But we're talking more about how Jews view the world, the worldview Describing that worldview as apocalyptic provides the context but it's embedded all over the text of the
