Should other countries adopt Canada's immigration model?

The Inquiry

CHAPTER

Immigration in Canada

Canada is the world's second largest country by surface after Russia but has a relatively small population of 38 million. In 1947 it changed its Immigration Act to allow more workers in to help drive economic reconstruction following the Second World War. Then in the late 1960s it became the first country to introduce a points-based system to determine who stays. Those with the most points are then invited to apply for permanent residence status which starts as soon as you arrive in Canada.
