Is There a Callousness in the Stoics?

i think one of the ye i've also been struck with, it almost feels like callousness in the stoics. And then you sort of go, well, when infant mortality is 30 %, we can make more rational calculations about attachments to people and things that a slave in rome would have had to be much more closed off. So i think that's maybe where some of that comes from. It's not like epictetus was an ass hole. I don't know, maybe he was, but this doesn't make him that. That rationality is something that is incredibly valuable and is on short supply these days.
