How to Optimize Your Sleep Around Caffeine and Alcohol
Caffeine is a stimulant. First thing in the morning to help with that inertia and to help to get going can be a performance enhancer for an athletic sense. But then the need of effects of caffeine is got a very long half-life. So it's going to keep that mental stimulation going for a lot longer than what people wish it did. Alcohol, a little bit of alcohol, probably not a big deal. But as alcohol gets metabolized, the metabolites are stimulants. And so alcohol is this sort of too-pronged effect. It's actually making them wake up and make sleep restless and people feel hot and uncomfortable. Then they wake up feeling tired.
