Predicting PTSD After Trauma
Researchers are attempting to identify behavioral, emotional, and brain markers that may predict the likelihood of developing PTSD after an acute traumatic event. 55% of participants have persistent derealization symptoms during the first two weeks after their traumatic experience. These symptoms are also associated with increased activity in a brain region called the ventral medial prefrontal cortex when they looked at fearful faces.
