In the beginning, copyright law protected content for 14 years. Now a standard copyright term is life of the author plus 70 years. We're talking well over a century worth of protection. Most content loses its commercial activity and potential shortly after being launched onto the market. And that seems like an enormous downside for comparatively small upside.
