The Effects of Pyruvate Carboxylase Deficiency on Lactate Levels

Ordinarily, lactate rises during exercise because the demand for glycolysis is normal. pyruvate carboxylase deficiency raises lactate because there's not enough aspartate to move electrons from cytosolic NADH to mitochondrial NADH. This makes oxygen in the respiratory chain helpless and irrelevant. We're going to cover that in great detail in the next episode on my biotin loading phase.
