The Lock Nest Monster
The monster was nicknamed Nessie. A man from London named George Spicer and his wife were motoring around the lock, which means driving in their automobile around it when they saw the monster. He then wrote a letter to the Inverness Courier that cemented the phrase lock nest monster in the public mind. Mr. Spicer also thought it looked very ugly, and he thought it should be destroyed - unless you're a biologist or just don't like destroying rare, possibly prehistoric animals.
