Material Culture and Women in the Past
Material culture seems to encompass much more ry. The population anciently that produced texts was just a small subset of the overall population. But when you take on images tat and objects that would have been commonplace, perhaps even within domestic households or settings in which women are acting as agents, you find that they are often imbued with meaning - either overtly or less overtly. And we need to be careful about how we use objects toward that interpre ation. So you often find that objects used as primary sou material can put into tension what is in the literary record.
