NASA has put a lot of money into studying radiation exposure, especially for long-term missions like eventually getting to Mars. There's more responsibility to make it safer because of realizing what was happening that we didn't know was happening at the time. So trying to update knowledge and to make sure that we're keeping the astronauts safe as well as having successful missions is the challenge.
