The Importance of Community Support in an Inpatient Unit
As senior psychiatrist in the team, I looked after 20 men on an inpatient ward. Two thirds of those were detained under the mental health act. The aim is always to discharge people from the hospital as safely as possible and help them be able to pick up their recovery with community support out of hospital. It wasn't always an enjoyable job, you know, it was a hard job, Graham, I would say. Very hard, very challenging work but so satisfying to see people be able to regain that control and that sense of autonomy"
