Are Social Factors More Important Than Ego?
I wonder whether that's something that we see in the main stream, where people really are looking to find new information and update their beliefs. And then at the extremes, perhaps the social factors become a kind of identity protective cognition becomes more prevalent. What is it that the platforms can do to tidy up the information ego and bring accuracy a little bit closer to the top of the agenda? I think in some sense the answer is encouraging, which is there's lots of easy things that platforms can do. But given that all this is about attention, another issue is you can't just do one thing, because people will start ignoring it.
