Who Pays the Social Security Tax?
In economics we call tax incidents. It answers the question who ultimately pays a tax. What we care about as economists, what everybody should care about is the economic burden. By law, social security tax is split. 6.2% comes out of the employee's paycheck. And people look at that and say, well, that's fair.
