As many as 500,000 people are screened for military service every year doctor Hagnie says on average a half a percent have potentially serious cardiac issues that's several thousand people in 2022 Naval Academy midshipmen died of cardiac disease within weeks of one another when the superintendent found out an EKG could have identified their heart issues he had the entire academy screened. Many conditions have no symptoms and go undiagnosed but can intensify and suddenly appear with physical exertion like military training.
