The Extreme Testing of the Gao Kao
This year is very unique because so many Chinese universities are basically R&D bases for the Chinese military and security apparatus. Many of the high schoolers regard the Gao Kao as the way to enter into top Chinese universities. From there, they will go study abroad, mostly the United States. If you were to apply for these universities that were sanctioned by the U.S., you would see a major drop in enrollment.
