Melting of Greenland ice sheet

Science In Action

CHAPTER

The Instability of the Greenland Ice Sheet

The Greenland ice sheet loses its ice two different ways. One is it melts because the atmosphere is warm in the summer but the other way is it's flowing faster and faster as it gets to the edges of the ice sheet. And if that speeds up then obviously like a faucet on a water tank being opened we lose that store of water much more quickly. The sheer quantity of water shifting through the system is crazy. It was absolutely flabbergasting. I had never seen anything like it."
