Film Schools - Are You Trying to Give Students a Grounding in Film History?

A lot of films students don't seem to have a grounding in film history. They think they do something like a handheld child, a long tracking shot. And I find that disappointing. So it sounds like you are kind of trying to give them more of an overall view of cinema. Well, that's right. You know, for me, all of my professional life, I've enjoyed reading and now we have YouTube, interviews of cinematographers. One thing that's always kind of really jazzed me is how much they all know about the history of the craft. That's why I teach that one class, that survey class.
