How to Reduce Intracranial Pressure
There are two common clinical scenarios in anesthesiology. One is when someone potentially has impending brain herniation. The other is the attempt to relax the brain in order to facilitate neurosurgery. Hyperventilation is great once your patient is intubated, all you need to do is change your ventilator settings. But it's hardly a perfect method and will essentially become relatively less useful over time.
