The End of Reconstruction

In 1877 the year federal troops withdrew from the South. It was a devastating moment for African Americans who had fought so hard to maintain So many of the rights they had gained in the Civil War and throughout the Reconstruction period. I think it was the final sign that The US government itself had given up on this very important project of Reconstruction, you know as we we've seen these troops did not prevent a lot of the worst violence of Reconstruction.
