I think they may be the test case for that slightly snobbish attitude that's going around. If a film is too good, yeah, it doesn't get counted in horror films. Val Luton was one of the first filmmakers who had a sense of his own critical reception and felt he got enough power with the studio to do what he wanted. But if you look at his statements, he never goes around saying this isn't a horror film. He makes fun because he thinks they're not scary. Yeah. Don't you want me to walk you home? No, thanks.
