The Promise of the Virgin Birth

He describes an enmity that's going to exist between the devil and humanity. He shall bruise you on the head and you shall bruise him on the heel. This is a very unusual phrase in Hebrew because this is the only place in the Old Testament where you have the feminine pronoun connected with this word seed. Luther saw already here a hint of the virgin birth, that this seed would come not with the participation of a man but instead would come by the power of the Holy Spirit. And it really becomes the foundation of all of the other prophecies of the Messiah that we hear in the rest of the Old Testament. They all grow out of this one initial gospel promise to Adam
