Are You Obliged to Promise?

i think this applies to a whole series of social relationships. So take being some one's neighbour - you're still obliged to do it, if you're a good neigh and you'll be blamed if you don't. And i think in order to explain how that works, you need the idea that this is actually a valuable kind of social bond. A classic example of putting myself under obligation to somebody is a promise. How would you characterize promising? Oable. This also is something flosses of thought allotted out, especially since hume decided this was actually a very mysterious thing, promising.
